The Castleton Women’s Basketball team steamrolled its way into the semi-final round of the North Atlantic Conference tournament Tuesday night by crushing Thomas College. The Spartans defeated Thomas 72-47, continuing their win streak and dominance in the conference.

The Spartans got their offensive wheels turning with a 9-0 run in the first half, and later went on a 13-3 run. They entered the second half with a 29-19 lead, and continued to dominate with high percentage shooting from the field and behind the arc.

The Spartans placed 10 players in the scoring column, led by Laura Cray’s 16 point, 6 rebound performance. Mary Nienow also added 16 points, 12 of which came from behind the three-point line. Jessica Banks scored 8 points, assisted on 11, and nabbed 9 rebounds.

LeeAnne Ketchen went a perfect 3 for 3 from behind the arc adding to the outstanding three-point shooting performance by the Spartans.

“For us to be successful in the post season we must continue to defend at a high level and get an inside, outside scoring balance,” Coach Tim Barrett said prior to the game.

The Spartans are 14-2 in the Conference, and have yet to lose a game at Glenbrook Gymnasium this season.

Castleton will be hosting the NAC semi-finals on Feb. 29 against Becker College. Castleton has won the two meetings between these teams by 10 points or more.

The winner will go on to play in the NAC Championship on March 1.
