Klein shines in NAC

The Castleton State College women’s cross country team took second place in the North Atlantic Conference Championship race, while the Spartan men took fourth place on Saturday, Nov. 1.The Lady Spartan team was again the runner-up to the University of Maine-Farmington team, which has won four NAC titles in the last five years.

For the women, who scored 58 points, Maggie Klein led the way with a time of 20:12. She placed second overall in the standings, only behind Lindsay Calkins of Lyndon State College. Lindsay Rines and Sage Small rounded out the top three for the Spartans, finishing in 10th and 12th places respectively.

“We all raced really well and have been putting a lot of time into our workouts and getting ready for the end of the season,” said Klein. “Maine-Farmington has a really great team; they have been lucky getting some good recruits and have been training really hard too.”

In the men’s race, Lyndon State College took top honors this season. Jeffery Paul finished first for the Spartans and 11th overall in the men’s race with a time of 30:30. Nicholas Grasso and Peter Smith took second and third honors for the Spartan men as they finished 14th and 16th respectively in the individual times.

The Spartans will now wait anxiously for next season to come.

“The season next year should be good, we’re getting some transfer runners and they should really help our team out,” said Klein.
