Women’s Ice Hockey

The women’s hockey team has lost six of its last seven games, dropping to a disappointing 5-17 overall record.Castleton had a chance to put up some numbers in the win column this weekend but failed to do so after dropping a pair of games to St. Anselm and New England College.

The Spartans put 17 shots on goal in their match up with New England College but were 0-10 on power plays. Vanessa Carter was the highlight for the Spartans with 21 saves. Castleton lost 8-0.

On Saturday, Castleton couldn’t turn things around against St. Anselm as they were only able to get 5 shots on goal and went 0-2 on power plays. The Spartan defense was appalling, giving up 48 shots on goal. The Spartans lost 9-0.

The Spartans have been lead all season by the superb goal tending of Vanessa Carter, last years “goalie of the year” in the ECAC, who has 627 saves this season.

The Spartans were picked ninth in preseason poll by the ECAC, but with a 5-17 record they will most likely need to win out and get some help in order to make an appearance in the playoffs.

The Spartans have three games remaining and desperately need to win all of them to increase their slim chances of furthering their season.
