Women dominate court
On Sept. 24 the Castleton State College women’s tennis team won at home against Colby-Sawyer College.
The Lady Spartans swept the competition, winning each of their nine matches.
Castleton dominated their opponents in singles. First Michelle Podnecky continued her winning streak for the season; she’s now 8-0 in singles after defeating Claire Toffey 6-1, 6-3. Kate Bucci and Chelsea Crehan each allowed their opponents to score only one point in their respective matches.
In doubles, Podnecky and Bucci defeated Toffey and her teammate Kathleen Rogers 8-4, bringing their winning streak to 7-0.
The Spartans are 6-2 so far this season and 4-0 in the North Eastern Athletic Conference. Their only losses were to Plymouth Sate and Plattsburgh State.
With nothing but W’s across the board in the NEAC it looks like Castleton has a good shot at making playoffs again this season.
The next women’s tennis competition is on Thursday at 4 p.m. at Massachusetts College of Liberal Arts.
