Volleyball hungry for a win
The Castleton State College women’s volleyball team had a tough weekend in Massachusetts, dropping two matches played on Sept. 24 against Mount Holyoke and Elms College.
It was a rough three-set match with Mount Holyoke as Castleton went down in straight sets. Nicole Valastro, Alyssa Sherman, Sarah Wheeler and Grace Schreiber played a strong match, though, each having two kills. Paige Lacey led the team with six assists and 11 digs.
The Spartans showed their skills in the second match against Elms College, which ended up going the
distance of a five set contest.
Castleton got out to a 2-1 set lead before Elms College took the win away. Although suffering a loss, the team did show off their talented players as Wheeler and Schreiber combined for 18 of Castleton’s 34 kills. Valastro led Castleton in assists with 13. Sherman led her team and had a tie for the match high in digs, registering 19. Valastro, Wheeler and Schreiber each had 11 digs while Paige Lacey added on another 10 digs.
Castleton’s defense registered 4 blocks for the match.
The volleyball team goes into action again on the first of October, when they will travel to Maine for a doubleheader against Maine Maritime and Husson.
