Fresh perspective: There’s so much to do around here, take advantage

So here I am again my fellow freshies, writing another article for you all! I hope these first few weeks of school have been off to a great start for everyone, and you’re not spiraling down into a deep black hole of stress and misery (because that sounds terrible).

With that being said, I’m sure you all are asking yourselves, “Well, now that I’ve moved to such a small town in such a small state, what is there to do for fun?”

I could think of a million things off the top of my head, being born and raised here myself, but here’s a few I think you all will enjoy.

With fall just beginning, there are lots of towns surrounding Castleton that offer apple orchards! Who doesn’t love crisp, fall apples? I sure don’t know of anybody who doesn’t.

Some of these orchards include Champlain Orchard in Shoreham, Apple Hill Orchard in West Rutland, and my personal favorite, Hicks Apple Orchard in Granville, New York. Apple picking is such a great way to kick off fall and is a blast to do with friends.

There are many hiking trails in Castleton, and in neighboring towns as well. There’s nothing better than a hike to give you a burst of energy and make you feel great for the rest of the day!

I love going up to Mount Zion in Hubbardton and checking out all its hiking and climbing trails, as well as its beautiful Japanese garden! It’s such a beautiful place to relax. Other hiking trails you could look into are on Birdseye and the Rail Trail, both right in Castleton.

Finally, to all my powder hounds, winter will be upon us before we know it. You know what that means? Ski and board season! It makes me excited just thinking about it.

I know it has the same effect on many of you too.

But alas, where are all the mountains in Vermont to ski and ride? (That was just a joke. We live in the Green Mountain State. Yes, you can laugh).

There are many places to ski and board around here! There’s Pico, Killington, Okemo, Smuggler’s Notch, and so many more. Choose as you wish, but we all have a favorite.

As I said before, I could go on and on listing exciting things to do around this little town. These are just a few things to keep in mind as the year goes on and you start becoming incredibly bored with everyday life, because trust me, the same routine everyday becomes mind numbing.

Try some of these out, I’m sure you’ll have a blast! Or you know, Google is your friend, it can help you find cool stuff to do also.

Until next time my fellow freshies, keep on keepin’ on!
