Letter to the editor: soundings and studying abroad
As the new manager of the Soundings program and huge advocate of foreign travel, I was dismayed to read about Alex Noonan’s recent difficulties.
I had not previously heard of students being prevented from studying abroad as a result of their Soundings status.
And, while, I am not familiar with the particular details of his situation, I have reached out to Alex and would, similarly, like all Soundings students to know that my fellow Soundings instructors and I are all very much in favor of students pursuing their dreams and that we are here to help you succeed.
As I encouraged Alex to do, please do not hesitate to contact me if you have any Soundings-related questions or concerns that I might be able to assist you with!
I cannot promise that you will always get the result you want, but it certainly won’t hurt to get a second opinion or have another set of eyes take a look at your case. Feel free to call me anytime at x1258 or email me at jessica.cowden@castleton.edu.

Rockin’ and jammin’ in the rain

Well, a couple weeks ago my girlfriend, Phoebe, and I got lawn tickets […]
From social butterfly to fear
I have always been a very social person, extremely easy to talk to and someone who can make friends with anyone. College changed that a lot for me. I went from loving getting to meet new people to being filled with stress and anxiety. The worst part of this newly found social anxiety is it […]
Stuck in the middle
It’s morning time. Something like 7:30, 8 o’clock. I roll out of my bed, get dressed and stretch a little to hear my knees crack. That’s how I knew I was ready to go. As I walk to school it’s drenched outside. It snowed last night but the heavy rain made it no better to […]
Detaching from social media
I was never much of a social media person. Maybe it’s because I was a bit late to the game. My parents didn’t want me to have it until I graduated, but of course, I made accounts anyways. Sophomore, junior, senior year of high school, I joined Snapchat, then Instagram, and TikTok (eventually they found […]
Zodiac signs are fun, but let’s not go overboard
As more and more U.S. adults are separating from traditional religion, many still desire an outlet for “spirituality,” which primarily entails a search for self-knowledge and understanding of others and the world around us. Of these spiritual beliefs, one stands heads and shoulders above the rest: zodiac signs. According to a YouGov’s 2022 Poll, over […]
