The success for Castleton State College Athletics just seems to be contagious. The baseball, softball and women’s lacrosse teams are all in first place in the North Atlantic Conference. The men’s lacrosse team is in second place, and the men’s tennis team is in third, but not far behind Johnson State and first place Colby-Sawyer.

After splitting the first doubleheader with Husson last Friday, the Spartans took back-to-back games at home on Saturday. The Spartans won the first game 11-6. Macyn Clifford hit two home runs in the second game to lead the Spartans to the thrilling 5-4 victory over the Eagles. With those wins, the Spartans move into a virtual tie for first place in the NAC with Thomas College.

After sweeping doubleheaders against Thomas and Maine-Farmington, the Spartan softball team leads the NAC with a record of 10-1. With the Spartans’ bats coming alive as of late and having Taylor Lively pitch shutout after shutout, there is no reason the Spartans should not win the NAC title. After being picked to finish fourth in the 2012 NAC coaches poll, the Spartans have so far exceeded expectations and continue to impress.

Going into the game against Norwich tomorrow at 4 p.m., the women’s lacrosse team has won five straight and remains perfect in conference play. Despite not having any players in the top five in the NAC for goals, assists or points, the Spartans remain first in the conference with a 5-0 record. When your team has no player in the top five for goals, assists or points and has thus far outscored conference opponents by a total of 94 to 25, then you know that you are the true definition of a team.

Last, but not least the men’s lacrosse team has been almost perfect in conference play with their only loss coming at the hands of New England College, who currently sits in first place. Heading into today’s game with SUNY-Cobleskill, the Spartans have won six of their last seven games. Freshman Zach Davidson currently leads the team and conference in assists with 34 and points with 66.
