The Spartan field hockey team made history on Oct. 23, 2011 by beating the Husson Eagles 4-2, going a perfect 9-0 in NAC play.

Grabbing the number one seed in the NAC tournament, the Spartans beat Lasell College 4-0 in their opening round of the playoffs and advanced to the semifinals to play against Husson today.

Rachel Preusser scored two goals in the contest against Lasell, bringing her total to twenty on the season and the team’s total to seventy-one this season, a new school record.

Also advancing past the quarterfinals were both the men’s and women’s soccer teams. The men’s team defeated

Colby-Sawyer College on Sunday 3-1, advancing to its 10th-straight NAC semifinal game. The team improves its record to 11-5-2.

Trevor Kotrady had a goal in the game, bringing his season total to a team-leading fourteen.

The women’s soccer team outshot Thomas College 47-6 in a 6-1 blowout at Spartan Stadium.

Although the Terriers struck first, the Spartans scored six unanswered goals, including two from Hilary Cooke, who now has eighteen on the season, and one from Courtney Chadburn, who has seventeen for the season.

Also, Sophomore Kelsey Lenney had her first multi-goal game of her career.

Gallaudet University pounded through the Spartan defense with 532 rushing yards as the Bison starting quarterback, Quentin Williams, led the way, running for 234 yards.

The Bison’s beat the Spartans 59-40 at Spartan Stadium, dropping their record to 3-5 overall and 2-3 in ECFC play. Their next game is against Husson at 12 noon on Saturday, Nov. 5.

The men’s ice hockey team opens up its season against the University of New England this Friday at Spartan Arena and then plays against Southern Maine on Saturday at 4 p.m.

The women’s ice hockey team also opens up its season at home this Friday against Norwich at 4 p.m. and then it plays at home again against St. Michael’s at 7 p.m.

The Lady Spartans are looking to make their presence known in the ECAC East this season with new head coach Bill Bowes at the helm.
