Fall ’Fit Check: Kami Chadwick

’Fit Check this week features first-year student Kami Chadwick, who describes her sense of style as “a bunch of different styles all mixed into one.”

Q: Can you introduce yourself?

A: Hi, my name is Kami Chadwick. I am a freshman here at Castleton and I’m a sports management major.

Q: What are you wearing today?

A: I have some high-top Converse on. Also, a Brandy Melville skirt, Brandy Melville sweater vest and then I have this Hollister turtleneck. And then a headband on.

Q: How would you describe your sense of style?

A: I feel like my whole life, starting in high school, maybe, I would describe my style as a bunch of different styles all mixed into one that would really describe what I wear. I feel like I don’t wear this kind of outfit every single day. So, I would say it’s a pretty good mixture that makes up what I would say my overall aesthetic or style would be. There’s still some styles that I don’t really tap into as much, but it’s not anything super specific, which is what makes it kind of all over the place.

Q: What are your influences then?

A: I would definitely say Pinterest has become a big one online. And basically, what I see on Instagram and TikTok, for sure. I would say it’s been changing a lot, like little things that I start to wear more or less due to a lot of the trends on TikTok, which has become something that’s been kind of different in the last few years. It also has a lot to do with the certain season that I’m in. It can also sometimes be a movie or TV character, like certain niches, things like that … I’ll pull out clothes or I’ll buy certain things that go more with that certain thing I’m thinking of at the time.

Q: Do you have a favorite article of clothing? What is it?

A: That’s kind of hard, but I would say a good white tank top. I feel like it’s kind of boring, but it’s really flattering and simple and it goes with a lot of stuff. And I feel like I’ve gotten more into basics recently. So that, right now, is one of my favorite kinds of clothing.

Q: Where are your favorite places to shop?

A: I try to shop in-store as much as possible. I prefer just shopping as an activity or something to go do for fun. And it’s easier for me to feel the clothing, kind of just see all the different options and how it actually looks. I would say since there’s not a ton in Vermont to go shop at. H&M has been a big one for me since it came to the mall and it’s in my area back home. So, I really have enjoyed H&M for the prices, and it actually has a lot of my styles. American Eagle is another one … I really like PacSun and Garage, things like that.

Q: What’s the most recent article of clothing you bought?

A: It would be a white tank top, but a different version of one that I didn’t have. One I had didn’t fit, so I ended up buying one from Target. They have a cute little section, I’ve actually found some things to be really cute and they’re not super expensive. So, it was a basic $8 tank top, but it fits super well and it’s not see-through, which is a perfect staple that I needed.

Q: What’s a piece of fashion advice you swear by?

A: Everyone says this, but fashion advice – just go with what you like. I feel like it took me a while … I’d be insecure to wear this in high school, (but) it’s normal clothing. And Vermont specifically, going to school here and living here, you don’t see a lot of different things. But to be the one kind of different person is cool. Just do what you want, because everyone sort of does similar things, and you feel so inspired when you see someone else doing something that they like, that you’re like, “we can do that?” So, just do whatever you think is cool and change it up often, don’t change it up. Just wear one new thing every day, it’ll be cool.
