Spring Fashion

Welcome back everyone, hope y’all had a wonderful break and are enjoying the nice weather! This week we’ll be talking about Spring 2020 fashion trends!

As you may or may not know, late-February through March is fashion month and designers along with houses launch their collections for the season and display upcoming trends. So, let’s talk about them!

Underwear as Outerwear!

The biggest thing I’ve noticed is the use of undergarments- bras, corsets, slip dresses- and displaying them so they’re the appeal of the outfit. I love this trend! What’s sexier than dismantling our oversexualized society by literally wearing bras as shirts? Tell me if you know!

But really though, be prepared to see corsets and slip dresses in your local Forever 21, because this trend is going be huge, as seen on the runways of Gucci, Mugler, Vera Wang, Acne Studios and Jacquemus.

Waistcoats and Trench Coats!

This trend is bringing back the early 2000’s vibes and I am so here for it. Waistcoats, which are usually kept hidden under suit jackets, are now front and center, featured in shows from Celine, Saint Laurent, Acne Studios, and Louis Vuitton. Another outerwear that is having yet another moment are trench coats, you know, the notoriously detective-like long coats that your mom or a hip accountant wears. As you can tell, I’m not the biggest fan of this trend, I just think it’s been done before. But with the right styling, it could be fun. They were displayed on models in shows from Gucci, Celine, Alexander Wang, and Fendi.

Tropical Fusion!

I’m sure you all remember J-Lo’s iconic tropical-print Grammy’s dress. And I’m sure you saw that she closed out the spring/summer Versace show with a revival of the dress. Now, tropical prints are becoming a thing, again. Tropical prints? For spring/summer? groundbreaking. You could see this trend on the runways of Versace, Dolce and Gabbana, Valentino, and Fendi.

Hot Pants are Hot!

Hot pants are just really short shorts that could possibly resemble a diaper if not worn correctly. But this trend was everywhere on the runways. Like legit. It’s a fine trend, like it’s not that exciting, but it’s fashion so they will be everywhere this summer. Maybe a Coachella moment? Hot pants and a crochet top—also a popular trend this spring? Just you watch. Shown on the runways of Hermes, Chanel, Saint Laurent, and Brandon Maxwell.
