Spartans continue their success on Senior Night

The Castleton Wrestling team ended its regular season with a 23-11 win at home on Friday against Williams College.

Seniors Nick Camacho, Joseph Galusha, Jeb Hodsden, Ethan Ives, Mitchell LaFlam, Reece Millington and Mason Osborn were all celebrated for their accomplishments throughout their four years. These seven individuals make up the last remaining members of the first team in program history.

Camacho, Galusha and LaFlam won their final matches at Glenbrook Gymnasium, all by decision. In fact, the Spartans recorded seven consecutive wins by decision to start with a score of 23-0, enough to seal the match against the Ephs.

LaFlam reflected on the night as “bittersweet.”

“This was a really good way to wrap up. We beat Williams, they’ve been a bit of a rival for the past couple years,” he said. “So, it felt good to get that win.”

The win against Williams College marked win number 17 for Castleton, and number three in a row. Perfect timing with the New England Writers Association Futures and Regional Tournaments coming around the corner.

“I think that our team is peaking at the right time,” said LaFlam, a three-year captain for the Spartans. “I think that some of our heavy-hitters are locked and loaded and ready to wrestle. We’re gonna be bringing some plane tickets to Nationals.”

Next on tap for the Spartans is the NEWA Futures tournament on Saturday Feb. 22 at Western New England University at 11 a.m., followed by the NCAA Northeast Regionals on Saturday Feb. 29 and Sunday March 1 at Rhode Island College at 9 a.m.
