Spartans prepare for 12th annual Pink the Rink benefit game
The 12th annual Castleton Women’s Hockey Pink the Rink game benefiting the Foley Cancer Center at Rutland Regional Medical Center will take place on Feb. 7, at Spartan Arena. The puck will drop at 7 p.m.
The Spartans take on rival Suffolk University, who has a conference record of 7-5-1, an overall record of 7-11-3, and they sit 5th place in the New England Hockey Conference standings.
Castleton, currently sitting 2nd to Norwich in the standings, has a conference record of 7-3-2, and an overall record of 10-8-3.
CU head coach, Mike Venezia, feels very confident going into this game.
“Every game from here on out is a playoff game for us, and with the way we battled this past weekend vs Johnson & Wales and UMass Boston, we feel we can compete with anyone in our conference,” Venezia said.
Castleton’s Pink the Rink game started in 2008 and has raised over $70,000 to aid the battle against cancer.
“The fact that we can give so much back to the community that has given so much to our program is always rewarding,” said Venezia.
Player jerseys are currently being auctioned off, all money benefitting the Foley Cancer Center at Rutland Regional Medical Center. A link to the auction can be found on Castleton’s website under the Pink the Rink story on the main page.
The game begins at 7 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 7 at Spartan Arena.
