Women’s soccer 7-0 in NAC

This past weekend Castleton Women’s soccer traveled to Bangor, Maine to play Husson and Maine Maritime. The Spartans came up with a 1-0 victory and a NAC win against the Eagles in the afternoon of Saturday Oct. 13th.

Castleton outshot Husson 22-2 for the game. The Spartans only goal of the game was at 19:34 when senior forward Kelsey Garceau found teammate Sarah Ethier.

In the second half Castleton outshot Husson 12-2, causing the Eagles Jessica Poulin to make eight saves. She finished the game with eleven saves on the day. Spartans Freshmen Kaleigh Newton played the whole game without having to make a single save.

         This win gives coach Chapdelaine his 100th victory at Castleton with a winning record of 100-47-10. He is the fastest coach for Castleton soccer to reach the mark of 100 wins.

          Sunday Oct. 14 the Spartans would then play another NAC game against Maine Maritime, Castleton would beat Maine Maritime 4-0 and give the Spartans another NAC win.

Castleton got on the board early with a goal by Freshman Mallory Costello who made a shot past Mariners goalkeeper Taylor O’Malley. Costello added to the lead with a header in the goal off a corner kick by Jenna Bostwick in the 37th minute of play.

          Just over a minute into the second half, Sami Ritter scored the third goal of the day by a header from an assist by Ethier. The final goal of the day was scored off a free kick by junior Kelsey Lenney in the 86th minute of competition.

          Freshman Goalkeeper Sarah Shilstone didn’t need to make a save for the Spartans second game in a row. O’Malley had 14 saves.

Castleton will return to action on Oct. 18 when the team travels to Johnson.
