Women’s volleyball finishes season at 1-19

After coming off its first win of the season, the Castleton State College Volleyball team had a pair of tough losses when it had its last home games against Colby-Sawyer and Maine Farmington on Oct. 22, losing in straight sets.

In the match against Colby-Sawyer, the Spartans held their own in the first and third match, but could not find a way to finish them. Grace Schreiber led the Spartans in kills with five, while Paige Lacey and Nicole Valastro  had a pair of kills. Valastro and Lacey also led the team with assists, combining for seven of the Spartans’ eight assists.

Later in the day, the Spartans had another tough match against Maine Farmington.

Although they lost in straight sets, the team played tough through the entire match. Lacey and Ruth Tomlinson led the Spartans in kills by both registering five, while Valastro had four. Valastro led the team with nine assists. They played a defensive game as well, by registering five blocks in the match.

The Castleton State College team played its last match of the season on Oct. 26 against Norwich, which resulted in a loss. 

Team leaders were Valastro, Lacey and Ruth, who each had a pair of kills in the match. Tomlinson and Lacey had a pair of assists in the match as well. Lacey and Sarah Flore led the Spartans in digs both picking up eight. The team ended their season with a 1-19 record.
