Tim's fantasy tips

Let me just start by saying: my bad. Hopefully you listened to my week four starts, but if you listened to my week four sits… Sheesh. It’d be polite to say I crashed and burned in that category.

But cut me some slack here. Just a week prior the Colts didn’t trust Andrew Luck’s shoulder enough to let him throw the Hail Mary. He went into week four averaging FIVE YARDS PER PASS ATTEMPT. Then I tell you to sit him, he comes out, throws for 400+ yards and sets a career high for completions and pass attempts, including, wait for it, a Hail Mary try. I mean, have you ever heard something more contradictory in your life? (Fun fact 1: Luck has now thrown for over 300 yards and alteast three touchdowns in three straight games. Fun fact 2: I’m sorry I told you to drop him.)

Speaking of contradiction, if you look up the word in the dictionary, you’d probably find a picture of Amari Cooper right next to it. Yeah, so he went off for 100+ yards and a td the week I tell you to sit him, but the next week he had one catch for ten yards on just one target! This is why I say you can’t trust the man. So far, Cooper has two 100+ yard games, but in every other game this season he has not topped two catches or 17 yards. Yet, I tell you to sit him and he has his best game of the season. How convenient.

It just goes to show you that you can do all the analysis you want, but in the end, it’s anyone’s game for the taking. With that being said, here are some friendly suggestions for week seven:

Week 7 Starts

Kirk Cousins vs. NYJ: These past two weeks have been tough for Cousins owners. After exploding for 400 yards and three touchdowns against the Rams, he has failed to top 17 fantasy points in back to back games. Still, I would continue to roll with Cousins for this week’s matchup with the Jets. Gang Green has now surrendered 300+ yards and multiple touchdowns to the past three quarterbacks they’ve faced. That list includes Case Keenum and Blake Bortles. Hint: Kirk Cousins is better than them. As the general of an elite offensive pass attack, Captain Kirk should be started with confidence in week seven.

Robert Woods vs. SF: There seems to be plenty of fantasy points to go around in LA with receivers Brandin Cooks and Cooper Kupp enjoying quite a bit of fantasy success this season as well. It’s hard to imagine you’re not starting Woods if you have him, but if you need extra motivation, consider this: out of the Rams trio of wide receivers, only Woods has recorded atleast five catches and over 90 receiving yards in each of their past four games, including three games north of 100 yards. It seems as if Woods has emerged as the most consistent receiving option in the Rams high-octane offensive attack, which will square up against the 49ers below-league-average pass defense in week seven. Woods is a must-start.

Week 7 Sits

Jordan Reed vs. Dal: Given the depth of the tight end position this year and his undeniable talent; it will be tough for most to sit Reed. So, consider this as more of a ‘beware’. Reed has yet to top 65 yards in any game this season and hasn’t caught a touchdown since week one. If you want to hold on, I could understand. Reed is the type of player that could catch two td’s in any given game and nobody would be surprised. But with just two games of more than ten fantasy points so far this season, and the fact that Dallas has been tough on tight ends this year (eleventh in the league against the position) it may be time to consider playing guys like O.J. Howard/David Njoku/Trey Burton over Reed.

Lamar Miller vs. JAX: After being drafted by most as an rb2, Miller has been nothing short of a disappointment so far this season. He is averaging just 3.9 yards per carry, has just one total touchdown and hasn’t topped 49 yards on the ground in the past four weeks. Add in the fact that he has a matchup with one of the most imposing defensive units in the NFL in Jacksonville this week. What more do you need? If you weren’t sitting Miller already, you should be now.
