Tuesday’s job fair offers opportunities for students
Castleton University is hosting a Job and Graduate School Fair March 20 with over 60 organizations planning to attend.
Director of Career Services Renee Beaupre-White is the organizer of the event and said it’s important for students to attend.
“It’s an opportunity where we many companies coming and recruiting. Companies are looking for full-time positions, part-time positions, interns, seasonal work. We also have a lot of graduate schools coming recruiting for their graduate programs,” Beaupre-White says.
And while some might think it is just for seniors who are graduating, Beaupre-White said there is something for everybody. Beaupre-White said the event is a great opportunity to start networking with companies.
“The reality in our world today is that over 80 percent of jobs are found through a network, or a connection,” she said.
The Job and Graduate School Fair is an opportunity for students to start building those connections.
Senior Courtney Hunter has taken advantage of the networking.
“I believe it is important to network because you can make connections within your field and outside your field that could benefit you in the long run,” Hunter says.
It is important to begin networking early, Beaupre-White agreed.
“I’ve had first years come in my office hungry for internships and jobs. The earlier you start anything regarding your career, the better results you’re going to have,” Beaupre-White says.
“It’s important to get involved and be prepared for your future. Career services is a good place to go. They’re more than willing to help you with everything from getting a Linkedin which is very important, making a resume, building connections. You should definitely go to the career fair because there could be opportunities you didn’t know about,” says Hunter.
Other services offered at the fair include free Linkedin photos, chair massages offered by the Athletic Training Club, an equity bakesale sponsored by Women's History Month and raffle prizes.
Some organizations planning to attend include Marble Valley Correctional Facility, U.S. Department of State Diplomatic Security, YMCA Camp Chingachgook, Vermont Law School and University College Cork in Ireland.
The fair runs from 11:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. in Glenbrook Gymnasium. It is sponsored by Career Services and the Vermont Department of Labor.
