A senior says goodbye

The last 19 years of my life, I’ve been in school and soon it comes to end. The past five years at Castleton have been an experience to say the least, but I don’t think I would have it any other way.

Castleton University has been a part of my life since I was at least 4-years-old. My grandma used to teach in the nursing department, I took swim lessons for 10 years and even had middle school dances on campus. I know I’m as local as it comes.

It’s hard to think that the school won’t be a major part of my life anymore, but I think it’s time for me to move on. School has been important to me, but I need to step away from it for a bit. I want to work in the “real world” and have those “adult” experiences everyone talks about.

If you ask if I’m nervous about finding a job I’d tell you no. But that’s a big ass lie. I’m so nervous that I’ll mess up in an interview and look more like weirdo than I already do. But I think that once I get a job and get used to it my fears will go away.

I wouldn’t have made it this far without the wonderful professors of Castleton guiding me and pushing. Especially the Communication department.

Dave, thank you for being more than just an advisor and mentor me. You’ve been like an uncle to me always pushed me to shine. You put “fire in my belly” to go out and get the scoop. I’ll always be grateful for your help, advice and putting up with my crap.

Bob, thank you for giving me the skills and chances to make videos of all kinds. Without you and how you tell me to shut up I wouldn’t have worked on such fun projects. I hope your retirement is wonderful.

Sam, thanks for being a cool boss and having the best conversations about everything.

Sanjukta, thank you for believing in me and being a hard ass. Your driving force gave me inspiration to keep researching and to always learn.

Michael, thank you for exposing me to so many films and helping me find my passion for cinema. Though our experience together has been shorter than the others, I still treasure them and hope that one day I can create something that will make you proud.

Lastly Jadie and Catherine thank you for being my fellow reporters, editors and friends. It’s going to be weird not seeing you on Wednesdays to talk about stories for the paper. I wish you both the best of luck and kick ass in the field.
